THE TRAGIC STORY OF BASSEL ASLAN FROM MEDICAL STUDENT TO HERO TO MARTYR. Aleppo (City) June 23, 2012 - Basel was a 3rd year medical student who put his studies on hold in order to help treat those who have been wounded in Assad’s brutal crackdown on protesters, activists and civilians in Aleppo.
He was arrested sometime in early 2012 for ‘aiding the revolution’ and severely beaten and tortured. He proudly shows of the scars in the video above after his first arrest. He even has a smile on his face showing a tooth missing after on of Assad’s soldiers knocked it out with the butt of a rifle.
The second time he was arrested, for the same ‘illegal’ activities, he came back in a body bag. He was severely tortured, burned and then executed. His body released by Assad’s authorities as a direct warning to all doctors, medical students, medical volunteers, nurses or anyone else who dare treat wounded men, women and children in Syria … “we will kill you like we killed him” is what Assad’s forces are saying.
RIP Bassel.
