The Revolting Syrian-يلا إرحل يا بشار

Today, Thursday 5 July 2012, WikiLeaks began publishing the Syria Files – more than two million emails from Syrian political figures, ministries and associated companies, dating from August 2006 to March 2012.
This extraordinary data set derives from 680 Syria-related entities or domain names, including those of the Ministries of Presidential Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Information, Transport and Culture.
Over the next two months, ground-breaking stories derived from the files will appear in WikiLeaks (global), Al Akhbar (Lebanon), Al Masry Al Youm (Egypt), ARD (Germany), Associated Press (US), L’Espresso (Italy), Owni (France) and Publico.es (Spain). Other publications will announce themselves closer to their publishing date.
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said: “The material is embarrassing to Syria, but it is also embarrassing to Syria’s opponents. It helps us not merely to criticise one group or another, but to understand their interests, actions and thoughts. It is only through understanding this conflict that we can hope to resolve it.”
At this time Syria is undergoing a violent internal conflict that has killed between 6,000 and 15,000 people in the last 18 months. The Syria Files shine a light on the inner workings of the Syrian government and economy, but they also reveal how the West and Western companies say one thing and do another.  The range of information extends from the intimate correspondence of the most senior Baath party figures to records of financial transfers sent from Syrian ministries to other nations.
The database comprises 2,434,899 emails from the 680 domains. There are 678,752 different email addresses that have sent emails and 1,082,447 different recipients. There are a number of different languages in the set, including around 400,000 emails in Arabic and 68,000 emails in Russian. The data is more than eight times the size of ’Cablegate’ in terms of number of documents, and more than 100 times the size in terms of data. Around 42,000 emails were infected with viruses or trojans.
To solve these complexities, WikiLeaks built a general-purpose, multi-language political data-mining system which can handle massive data sets like those represented by the Syria Files.
In such a large collection of information, it is not possible to verify every single email at once; however, WikiLeaks and its co-publishers have done so for all initial stories to be published. We are statistically confident that the vast majority of the data are what they purport to be.

My Two Cents - These batch of emails depict the attitude that Assad, his inner circle and supporters have towards their own people. Disgust and disdain. That Syrians are merely nothing but barbaric creatures that should be grateful for the fact Assad allows Syrians to breath the same air as he does.

Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad swapped jokes and photographs that callously mock the religious beliefs held by a majority of his population, leaked emails purportedly show.

The ream of messages and derogatory cartoons allegedly sent among his ‘inner circle’ of female aides and family members poke fun at conservative Muslims.

Most of the messages ridicule the burka, the full body cloak worn by some Muslim women.

***COMEDY BREAK*** THE FIRST DEFECTIONS OF THE DUCKS FROM ASSAD’S DUCK BRIGADES. Hama: Mar 19, 2012 - A couple of ducks announce their defection live on camera from the beseied city of Hama. In emails leaked by The Guardian, Assad’s wife addresses the tyrant as “Batta” in her emails. “Batta” means a female duck in Arabic. Syrians have been having one hell of a time with this latest revelation about the cowardly tyrant.

It still amazes me how the people of Syria, under such grave and miserable circumstances can take time to have a laugh.

Thanks @Homsae

Documents leaked by Syrian defector show that Assad personally signs off security crackdown plans

Leaks of what appear to be official Syrian documents reveal how its president, Bashar al-Assad, personally signs off plans drawn up by his government’s crisis management centre, prioritising a security crackdown to prevent protests against his regime spreading to Damascus.

Hundreds of pages of confidential papers shown to al-Jazeera TV by a defector describe daily meetings of the heads of all Syria’s security and intelligence agencies, who review events and issue orders that are then approved by the president.

The Interfax news agency also reported that a Russian military anti-terror unit had arrived in the Syrian port of Tartous aboard a tanker from the country’s Black Sea fleet. The tanker had earlier passed through pirate-infested waters.

THEY CHANT IN ZABADANI “GOD DAMN YOUR SOUL OH DUCK!” (يلعن روحك يا بطة ). Damascus: Mar 17, 2012 - In refernce to Bashar and Asma’s leaked emails by The Guradian where Asma is seen using the word “Batta” (بطة ) which means (a female) Duck as her nickname for Bashar, these protesters in Zabadani use the popular chant of “God Damn Your Soul Oh Hafez” and change the words to the above mentioned chant.

Excellent stuff. Amazes me that despite all the pain, misery, death and suffering the people of Syria are still able to produce humor.

Next lets watch out for “”Yalla Ir7al Ya Batta”  يلا إرحل يا بطة

Thanks @ArabSpringFF

A cache of emails obtained by the Guardian shows correspondence between Syrian president Bashar al- Assad and his wife Asma and their inner circle of family and confidants, as the country slides toward civil war.

Messages show Assad took advice from Iran. Wife spent thousands shopping for furniture. He even sent his wife song lyrics and video clips, while she shopped for shoes and chandeliers.
